2019 Home Decor!

It’s almost a mix of rustic meets glam. And yes, it actually coincides well with the farmhouse style- in fact, I feel it adds even more dimension.

The idea is that life is so busy, chaotic, and inundated with a constant stream of demands, that home should be relaxing, glamorous…… a place of retreat.

Kinda exciting, no? Here are the top trend predictions I plan on adopting:

Color

We can’t talk about color without mentioning paint company color predictions. While Pantone and Sherwin Williams both set the 2019 forecast to warm, more dramatic shades:

Pantone’s color of the year is Living Coral- a vibrant (but mellow, according to Pantone) gorgeous coral with golden undertones.

And Sherwin Williams is calling Cavern Clay it’s 2019 color of the year…..

Benjamin Moore releases a much more relaxing color of the year, Metropolitan. In addition, they’ve paired it with a very calming palette of additional colors that includes some deepened blues, greens, and charcoals. These I can get on board with…..

And this is where you will get an idea of how the trends will go. Take note of the deepened colors on Benjamin Moore’s palette. Yes, that’s hunter green. It’s ba…a…a…ck!

You should start to notice moodier blues and greens taking over entire rooms (not just an accent wall).

oh… and…

Black bathrooms? Yes, they are popping up (not something I’m ready to try just yet), but look at how sleek they are when done right!

Me? I plan to have some fun playing with color. Im seriously considering a deep and moody color such as this for my lower kitchen cabinets. Paired with brass pulls and natural light? Stunning!

Kitchens that bridge the outdoors

Oh! I just dream about this. It’s about making the kitchen and dining accessible both indoors and out- having the ability to utilize both spaces together.

My plan? I would just love to expand my kitchen windows to share indoor/outdoor counter-space to the adjoining deck. Such as done in HGTVs 2019 smart home with bifold accordion windows:

Also take note of the counter to ceiling backsplash…. another trend expected to take off.

Light Colored Flooring

I’m very happy about this.

Velvet & Fringe

So glam.

Metals

Mixed metals continue to be on point and brass is seriously happening. Think cabinet pulls, fixtures, frames, faucets. It does look stunning mixed with rustic woods and painted cabinets…

I think my 90s era door knobs will still have to go …. these trends never bring it back exactly until it’s already extinct in most of our homes…. darn it.

Cement Tile

Bold patterns that bring to mind exotic places such as Italy, Morocco, Spain….

Try it on a backsplash or floors.

If you don’t want to shell out the expense and hassle of new tile, paint your existing tile using tile paint and stencils. Very budget friendly! I just ordered this one from amazon:

Santa Ana tile stencil

There are also tile decals you can order from places like stickpretty.com or Etsy.

Or just replicate with art work and textiles.

This actually looks gorgeous paired with rustic wood and the aforementioned materials.

Florals

These actually can pair fantastically well with the trends we’ve witnessed in the near past. Gorgeous rustic looks great paired with both muted and overt florals. Willing to try perhaps in select wallpaper (closet?) or art prints….
